Okay, so my family and I got off flight 17 of United from Honolulu. God, it was so hilarious on the way back. There was this girl and her parents sitting behind my mom and dad on the plane and my mom got pissed off at them for waking her up several times so she complained at them. Of course, the father of the girl said some crap in Cantonese after she complained. Turns out the girl was one of my sister's friends from Elementary and this was the reaction to seeing her :
Sister: "Hey, Mom! One of my old friends was on this plane."
Mom: (sarcastically)"I bet it was that girl sitting behind me."
Sister: "Actually, it was..."
Mom: "Shit."
So when we got off the plane, they followed after and my mom spoke to my grandma in Cantonese. So funny; you should have seen the look on the guys face behind her. It was a "oh, fuck. She understands chinese" look.
Rambling on about Honolulu
My dad has a friend in Honolulu named Patty and she has three sons and a daughter. I got to formally meet them this week and gosh darn it, they're adorable! Aha. I still think my boyfriend is much more handsome though. Apparently I use to hang out with them when I was a kid and went to Hawai'i, but my memory is sort of blurry since I've been in San Fran for so long. So on the second day we stayed, we went over to their shop (I believe it was called Rainbow Bridge) and we were introduced to Shane, the eldest of four. He told us about Shark's Cove and where we could see turtles at our hotel. Sadly, we were too busy to go to a beach and relax.
We were out sightseeing and one of the main places was the Polynesian Culture Center. It was a heaven to me; one of the only places I didn't complain at. Aha. I realized that a lot of the dances we saw I had learned already from my old dance group. In one dance, the men did the same chant as the guys in our school Polynesian Club. I was thinking: "Why does this sound so familiar..?" Poi balls; Oh, my god. They bring up so many memories of my sister hitting herself in the head with them..Thank goodness they weren't on fire like how the pros did it. Goddamn. The fire dances are always amazing to me and so are the Tahitian ones.
Whenever there was a Tahitian dance coming up, I'd do a yell and my mom would say: "Oh, my gosh, Jazmine! It's your people!" I find it awesome that the Polynesian islands speak French. Another reason for me to stay in French class. Take that, mommy! I can learn Canto or Mandarin some other day. Ehehe.
The show 'HA' at the Polynesian Culture Center is truly amazing! I highly recommend it before the show changes.The next day we went to the Dole Pineapple Plantation. Right when I heard 'pineapple', I thought of my old friend, Amy. She loves pineapples. Gustavo is an amazing pineapple, Amy! (Even though you probably aren't even reading.) Anyways, the pineapple there is so good, including their world famous Dole Whip (Pineapple ice cream). God, it was so freakin' good! I wish they sold huge tubs of them, then I'd be fat and smell like pineapple all the time.
Don't lie; it's adorable!The next day we went out for dinner with my mom and dad's old friend and her family. I got to meet Sophia and Lance that day. I didn't actually get to meet Sophia before, she's the youngest of their family. Her mom told me that she was caught riding her bike on the freeway. God knows why she'd do that. Aha. I found it funny yet scary at the same time. What if she got ran over?! Well, she's eight I believe and well educated. She offered to teach me some songs on the uke. She's precious! Gahh. Lance is a nice gentleman as well. I was too embarrassed to talk to him though because my mom kept talking about my "dumbass" moments and joking around about betrothing us since we're the same age. >_> God, mother! Embarrassing me! I love her though.
After we ate, Lance, Sophia and I walked a few blocks down to get ice cream. While we were walking Lance asked if we had a lot of shootings in San Fran. I answered honestly of course : "Ehh..a few here and there. Well, where I live especially since it's so dangerous and full of duggies." The ice cream place was close. I found it funny that we walked really far and ended up not being able to get ice cream at all. Oh, well.
The next day we relaxed, went to Wal-mart for some odd reason even though we could do that back at home, then went to dinner with Patty's family again. Sadly, I didn't get to meet the middle child, Matthew. Apparently he was busy with school or didn't pick up his phone. I ate a whole fourth of a pizza and felt very fat afterwards. I was surprised that kids in Hawai'i have a lot less time in school that main-landers. They start school at 8:30 and end at 2:00 according to Lance. Oh, the jealousy. And they get two Fridays off per month. Gahh, darn it.
In the future, I plan on living in Hawai'i if I can ever afford it, which I highly doubt. I might write more if I can remember tomorrow.
